From Markdown to an X Article

  1. Open md2xarticle. Paste your Markdown, import a file, or choose Example to try the built-in sample. H1 is optional: edit Article title above the preview, or use the automatic title from metadata, H1, or your filename.
  2. Attach local images with Images → Match image folder. A browser cannot read image paths in a Markdown file without you selecting the files. You can replace an image or undo a replacement directly in the preview.
  3. Review the preview. Mermaid diagrams become PNG images automatically. Tables can use native formatting or PNG images.
  4. For text, use Copy title and Copy body separately. Copy body includes rich article formatting. Image markers show where images belong; the companion handles their automatic upload and placement.
  5. For automatic draft creation, install the Chrome companion from the Chrome Web Store. Refresh md2xarticle after installation. The editor, copying and ZIP export work without the extension.
  6. In md2xarticle, select Create X draft. Review the title, body, and images in the extension, then confirm Create X draft. The companion opens X Articles automatically, waits for it to load, and continues using your signed-in X session. Your account needs Articles access. If sign-in is needed, finish it in the X tab and retry from the review page. To skip the review next time, tick Create drafts without this review there (companion 0.1.2 or later); progress and the draft link then appear under the md2xarticle toolbar.
  7. Open the resulting draft in X, check it, and publish there when ready.

Supported formats and limits

Paragraphs, headings, emphasis, links, simple lists and quotes become formatted article content. Attach PNG, JPEG or WebP images. Mermaid diagrams become static PNG images. Tables can remain native in the companion draft or become PNG images; clipboard pasting may require the PNG option.

Simple nested lists offer Convert to one level to keep every item. Complex lists, other raw HTML and footnotes remain blocked where content would be lost. HTML comments are omitted and <br> outside tables becomes a line break. Formulas stay as text or code, with a warning; use an image for rendered notation. For a cover, add cover: path to the frontmatter or choose one under Images; the companion (0.1.2 or later) sets it on the draft. Image ALT descriptions, GIF, SVG and video are not implemented. Draft creation has been confirmed in a real X account. Final rendering depends on X, which may change its editor, so review each draft in X before publishing.

Your Markdown and images are prepared and saved in this browser. Copying body text remains available while images are unresolved. ZIP export includes the complete prepared article when ready; otherwise it saves the original source, selected local files and restoration mappings in a source backup. Creating a draft requires an X account with access to Articles and a confirmation in the companion, unless you turned on its option to skip the review; publishing happens in X.

Step-by-step guides: tables, Mermaid diagrams and local and Obsidian images.

Common issues

Missing image: select the image's folder or use its Replace control. Obsidian paths are usually relative to the vault or note; selecting the corresponding folder lets the app match them. Clear any wrong replacement before reattaching.

Draft button disabled: select the issue count beside it to see what needs attention. Each issue includes a fix or a line link that selects the affected source block and highlights its line number. Errors must be resolved for a complete draft; formatting warnings do not block creation.

Companion not detected: enable it in chrome://extensions, open md2xarticle.com in the same browser profile, and refresh the page.

X draft failed: check the X tab for sign-in or Articles access requirements. If an older companion asks you to open X first, update it or open X Articles in the same Chrome profile and retry. X may change its editor interfaces. If a result is uncertain, check your X drafts before allowing another attempt.

Image or bundle too large: use PNG, JPEG, or WebP files up to 5 MiB each, with at most 40 images and 20 MiB of image data per draft.
